=================Original message text===============In Hungary we have officially launched the World March campaign on the22nd of March with a live non-violence symbol on the annversary of theIraq war, with the participation of about 2500. There were other similarevents in 5 other cities of Hungary as well as in 2 other squares ofBudapest between 19th and 23 rd of March. In total about 3500-4000people participated.
We had three TV interviews, three radio interviews and several articlesin online news protals prior to the event. In these we invited thepeople to join us on the 22nd, we spoke about the launching of themarch, its details and objectives. Depending on the depth and the lengthof the report it mentioned more or only several of our proposals. Ingeneral the reporst included some data about the actual world situation(30 wars, 30000 nuclear warheads, the money spent on armament, Hungarysending fighting troops to Afghanistan) and that the March is denouncingall these, demanding nuclear disarmament, stop wars, withdrawal oftroops, rejecting all forms of violence, spreading a new non-violentcounsciousness, World Without Wars as the initiator, organizations andpersonalities who had already joined the march. In two radio interviewssome Hungarian personalities were also asked why they were supportingthe initiative.
We have also prepared a 30 second TV spot with the participation of 4Hungarian personalities and it was directed by Hungarian film director. The spot was played in two major national TV channels the week beforethe event. The peronalities talk about why they had joined the March forPeace and Non-violence, its objectives (nuclear disarmament, peace, reject violence), as well as about the details of the march, that ittouches more than 100 countires, with the participation of manyorganization and it also invited the people to learn more about it onMarch 22nd. Ourt website and World Without Wars appears on the screentoo. This spot was shown about 15 times in total.
On the event itself we had an opening speech where we talked about thehistory of the the event which now we have organized for the 6th time,we recalled what we had said in earlier years, and we announced thelaunching of the march and invited all the people to adhere:
/"From today on we are going to work for that the message of the worldmarch is echoed in every corner of the world:We demand nuclear disarmament! We demand the withdrawal of the occupying troops from the occupiedterritories. We demand the governments to stop wars and signnon-agression agreements.Besides all these our objective is to spread a non-violent consciousnessthat rejects all forms of violence, whether physical, economic, racial, religious, psychological or sexual. This new counsciousness today is notonly a possibility for the human being but also a necessity, so that we"instinctively" repulse all that is violence. Thus this march will gonot only from one country to another, but also from one person to theother as well as within our own internal world."/
We also held a "peace ceremony" just like every year. The torches werelit by four famous personalities (two singers, an actor and a filmdirector), each of them saying a sentence where they denounced aparticular form of violence (refering specifically to the Hungariansituation). After that we read a short "ceremony" some thoughts forreflection about the possibilities we have to create the biggest commoncampaign of humanity against violence, inviting the people to take adecision. The atmosphere was excellent, people were very thankful and moved.
After the event many online news portals took the short news and thephoto from the major press agency, which mentiones the Humanist Movementas the organizer of the non-violence symbol, they mention all theobjectives very clearly, but nothing about the march itself. The majornational TV channel showed about 30 seconds in the evening news tellingthat thousands of people formed the peace sign with tourches on theHeroes' Square, demanding the end of war, nuclear disarmament, and italso mentiones that this event is part of a world march.
PS: also, 7 other organization participated in the event too...i forgot tomention this. hugs,. juci
